A brief review of IoT platforms and applications in industry

Abstract

"The Internet of Things (IoT) is a paradigm where everyday objects can be equipped with identifying, sensing, networking and processing capabilities that will allow them to communicate with one another and with other devices and services over the Internet to accomplish some objective. Besides, the IoT implies that any single object is a real time data source. This is beginning to transform the way of doing business, the organization of the public sector, the daily living style of mil- lions of people and particularly in the various activities of the industry. The main objective of this book chapter is to present the application of the IoT in the industry, describing its application domains, platforms and various study cases. In addition, we present a comparative analysis of the study cases, as well as the trends and chal- lenges of the IoT according to each domain of application."
